Liberia: Radical Tribal Loyalty May Impede Justice

By: Jackson Zleh Towah

The phrase “tribal loyalty” has been misguided by some diehard and radical elements within our tribal community (Krahn). Tribe as defines by Webster is a large or lesser group of people with customary norms. In a tribal setting of socialization, education, and political participation, tribal values deeply focuses on applicable human decency and responsible relationship of their coexistence with other communities and folks of their own. In sub Sahara Africa, one can see the uniqueness/related elements of these tribal norms as expressions of a common identity.

Robert Kennedy (1962).……in his assertion of wisdom on society and its laws said: “We administered laws to protect and expand individual freedom, not to compel individuals freedom, and the logic other men impose to them.”

Elsewhere, in biblical conjunction, God addresses communities or tribes as if they were individuals: “Israel, know that I am the Lord;” Ephraim, I have redeemed you,” and it continues in scripture. As such, the action of an individual within the tribes or communities does affect others.

We can than conclude that no sin or crime is private, because it always has a social, political and economic persuasiveness to influence or reshape the way we and the society coexistence can be protected and safeguarded by the laws of our communities.

I would have never be a party to these inept exchanges if these men desist from threatens folks who cooperating with federal authorities including me. I will never be intimidated by this clique of gangsters many of whom have supported subversive activities from oversea themselves. They spilled their agenda through tribal aggression/gangsters-style fashion to defend news/reality that a member of our tribe Dr. George Boley was never engaged in horrific and gross violations of human rights; an argument that inferred me to believe and understand why the war in Liberia was a compelling circumstance.

This business of going around threaten witnesses in the George Boley war crime trail has no place in any tribal oneness, neither is it politics but an Inculcation of radical expression. Are there folks taking liberty of American justice system?

I’m very grateful to Mr. Henry Glay for tipping me of about the so-called list created and circulated by certain individuals many of whom I can only described as nefarious human species and enemies of the state (Liberia). Mr. Glay’s revelation was verified by a respectable and trustworthy elder from within who spoke to me on this matter. I also followed-up with the appropriate authority to verify the truth or falsity of the so-called “Black-List.” The personnel from DHS gave me the firsthand understanding about what now turned out to be a black-list.

I first want to dispel the news that the federal government has summoned me……. (Jackson Zleh Towah) to testify at the war crime trail of Dr. George Boley. I’ve received no such official communication; and I believe the federal government will notify me of any such action if there be a need. As such, I considered such circulation of this so-called “black-list” not only as unfair impeding of justice but spine-chilling for witnesses who want to cooperate with federal authorities.

When I was first approached about the so-called “black-list,” I got irritated with Mr. Henry Glay and told him to stop playing around on such issue as it involves the federal government. The following day, I received several calls on this matter. “The government has published the names of the witnesses and I’ve a copy. Be careful how you get around krahn people now.” said Mr. Henry Glay. Unknowingly, he thought the “black-list” was from the federal government. I told Mr. Glay that I wish the government summon me to testify at the Boley trail; I will spill it.

Elsewhere, Mr. Thomas Zeh called Bernard Goah the following day and precisely mentioned a drafted “black-list” for the betrayers/potential witnesses in the George Boley war crime trial. Thomas in his quotation to Mr. Goah mentioned that “Dr. George Boley has been working for the CIA and that the LPC was sponsored by the United States government; as such, the federal government is only playing a cat and mouse game.”

I told Mr. Bernard Goah that no CIA agent goes around telling people that they work for the CIA; and that these folks only attempting to frighten witnesses. Elsewhere, I mentioned to Mr. Goah that any information from Thomas Zeh is a replica of Mr. Henry Galy.

Indeed, these are the kind of incongruent lies been employed by these individuals to intimidated witnesses with circumstantial visual evident from coming forward. I want to encourage all witnesses that you’re on the right side of history and nothing should deter you from stating what you witness. These blatant falsehoods are deliberate, empty threats, and have a strong tribal & radical purpose.

I’ve reported this matter to the appropriate authority of government. I shall hold in absentia the name of the federal agent. I’ve received hundreds of calls from the Liberian community in respect to the George Boley’s human rights violations; many of whom I believed are Grand Gedeans. This is my last warning; any telephone call, made from any Grand Gedean, to my phone concerning George Boley’s trail will be recorded and sent to the appropriate institution of government in pursuit of legal action.

Let it be known, that almost everyone in Liberia knows about George Boley LPC killing machine. This is not the case where you will try to hide anything; you will only portray yourself as an icon of deception, a congenital liar and moreover nefarious to human habitat. Are you folks helping George Boley? How George Boley got a lease on 16th street and Payne Avenue in Sinkor? What was the agreement? Who is Shaky? Why was he deported from Liberia by Charles Taylor? What was his connection to George Boley? I’m watching the head movements of the snake, not the body. Keep creating “black-list” from PRC days to our time.

However, as required by federal regulatory statute, it is not my place to connect you with the special-agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on this matter; but if you’ve valuable information on George Boley and the LPC please call the following human rights centres and they will put you in touch with the appropriate authority through the division of human rights violations.

Everyone is a genius

Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. – A Einstein

Drawing the line in Liberia

Crimes sponsored, committed, or masterminded by handful of individuals cannot be blamed upon an entire nationality. In this case, Liberians! The need for post-war justice is a step toward lasting peace, stability and prosperity for Liberia. Liberia needs a war crimes tribunal or some credible legal forum that is capable of dealing with atrocities perpetrated against defenseless men, women and children during the country's brutal war. Without justice, peace shall remain elusive and investment in Liberia will not produce the intended results. - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Men with unhealthy characters should not champion any noble cause

They pretend to advocate the cause of the people when their deeds in the dark mirror nothing else but EVIL!!
When evil and corrupt men try to champion a cause that is so noble … such cause, how noble it may be, becomes meaningless in the eyes of the people - Bernard Gbayee Goah.

If Liberia must move forward ...

If Liberia must move forward in order to claim its place as a civilized nation amongst world community of nations, come 2017 elections, Liberians must critically review the events of the past with honesty and objectivity. They must make a new commitment to seek lasting solutions. The track records of those who are presenting themselves as candidates for the position of "President of the Republic of Liberia" must be well examined. Liberians must be fair to themselves because results from the 2011 elections will determine the future of Liberia’s unborn generations to come - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia's greatest problem!

While it is true that an individual may be held responsible for corruption and mismanagement of funds in government, the lack of proper system to work with may as well impede the process of ethical, managerial, and financial accountability - Bernard Gbayee Goah

What do I think should be done?

The situation in Liberia is Compound Complex and cannot be fixed unless the entire system of government is reinvented.
Liberia needs a workable but uncompromising system that will make the country an asylum free from abuse, and other forms of corruption.
Any attempt to institute the system mentioned above in the absence of rule of law is meaningless, and more detrimental to Liberia as a whole - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia's Natural Resources
Besides land water and few other resources, most of Liberia’s dependable natural resources are not infinite, they are finite and therefore can be depleted.
Liberia’s gold, diamond, and other natural resources will not always be an available source of revenue generation for its people and its government. The need to invent a system in government that focuses on an alternative income generation method cannot be over emphasized at this point - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia needs a proper system
If Liberians refuse to erect a proper system in place that promotes the minimization of corruption and mismanagement of public funds by government institutions, and individuals, there will come a time when the value of the entire country will be seen as a large valueless land suited on the west coast of Africa with some polluted bodies of waters and nothing else. To have no system in place in any country is to have no respect for rule of law. To have no respect for rule of law is to believe in lawlessness. And where there is lawlessness, there is always corruption - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Solving problems in the absence of war talks

As political instability continues to increase in Africa, it has become abundantly clear that military intervention as a primary remedy to peace is not a durable solution. Such intervention only increases insecurity and massive economic hardship. An existing example which could be a valuable lesson for Liberia is Great Britain, and the US war on terror for the purpose of global security. The use of arms whether in peace keeping, occupation, or invasion as a primary means of solving problem has yield only little results. Military intervention by any country as the only solution to problem solving will result into massive military spending, economic hardship, more fear, and animosity as well as increase insecurity. The alternative is learning how to solve problems in the absence of war talks. The objective of such alternative must be to provide real sustainable human security which cannot be achieved through military arm intervention, or aggression. In order to achieve results that will make the peaceful coexistence of all mankind possible, there must be a common ground for the stories of all sides to be heard. I believe there are always three sides to every story: Their side of the story, Our side of the story, and The truthBernard Gbayee Goah
