Security forces in Sinoe County have arrested eight people in connection with illegal activities at the Sarpo National Park.

The men, between the ages twenty-two and forty have been turned over to Police for questioning.

They were caught looting the Park despite efforts by local authorities and government to discourage illegal activities there.

A statement from the Forestry Development Authority said the arrest was carried out by Forest Rangers, Community Policing Team and the local Traditional Council.

Meanwhile Sinoe Superintendent Milton Teahjay has recommended harsh punishment for those arrested to serve as a deterrent.

Mr. Teahjay asked local authorities in communities around the Park to provide a full listing of their inhabitants.

Superintendent Teahjay said the list will distinguish non residents from those who are legally residing in the communities.

The Sinoe Superintendent stressed it was possible that strangers hosted in the communities could be responsible for destroying the Park.
