Hon. Harris

Hon. Paasewe

PRESS STATEMENT

WE WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN BY THANKING THE MEDIA FOR COMING TODAY TO COVER THIS HISTORIC EVENT. THE TIME FOR TALKING IS OVER. IT’S NOW TIME FOR ACTION; IT’S TIME TO MOVE THIS COUNTRY FORWARD; IT’S TIME FOR A NEW ORIENTATION, AND IT’S TIME FOR A NEW OUTLOOK!

A FEW WEEKS AGO, WE LAUNCHED “PROJECT DEMOCRACY LIVE” - AN INITIATIVE INTENDED TO GIVE LIBERIANS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACTIVELY PARTICIAPTE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS. TO THIS END WE ASKED THEM TO RECOMMEND A PERSON TO SERVE AS VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE TO T.Q. HARRIS, JR. THEIR RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING. THIS WAS A CLEAR INDICATION THAT LIBERIANS ARE EAGER FOR A RENAISSANCE. THE RESPONSES CAME FROM THE INTERNET, FROM CALLS INTO RADIO STATIONS AND FROM TELEPHONE CALLS. AND WE ASSURED THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE THAT WE WILL HONOR THEIR DECISION ON WHOMEVER THEY MIGHT CHOOSE.

WE HAVE INVITED YOU HERE TODAY TO INTRODUCE TO YOU THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE AND THE WORLD AT LARGE THE PERSON WHOM THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE HAVE DECIDED AND WHOM I ALSO BELIEVE WILL MAKE THE NEXT BEST VICE PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY.

BUT BEFORE I INTRODUCE THIS ESTEEMED INDIVIDUAL, I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT WE WILL BE SEEKING THE PRESIDENCY AS INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES. THIS IS IN KEEPING WITH MY PROMISE TO THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE THAT I WILL NOT ADD YET ANOTHER POLITICAL PARTY TO THE MORE THAN TWENTY THAT CURRENTLY EXIST. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A GROSS ABUSE OF THE CONCEPT OF MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY.

NOW I WOULD LIKE TO USE THIS OCCASION TO SHARE WITH YOU A SUMMARY OF THE BOLD AND AUDACIOUS AGENDA MY VICE PRESIDENT AND I WILL BE IMPLEMENTING WHEN WE ASSUME LEADERSHIP OF THIS NATION FOLLOWING THE 2011 ELECTIONS.

1. THE T.Q. HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL FREEZE THE ASSETS OF PERSONS SUSPECTED OF CORRUPTION AND DENY ACCESS TO ANY AND ALL PROPERTY PENDING THE OUTCOME OF AN INVESTIGATION.

2. TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF HUNGER IN THIS COUNTRY, THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL INITIATE A SUBSIDIZED WORK PROGRAM WHEREIN ANY CITIZEN WHO WORKS AND EARNS AN INCOME OF LESS THAN A HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS A MONTH AND CAN PROVE THIS LEGALLY WILL RECEIVE AT LEAST 50% SUBSIDY TOWARDS THE COST OF A 100LB BAG OF RICE.

3. THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL ABOLISH THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS. JOBS THAT WERE ONCE PERFORMED BY THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS WILL BE AWARDED TO COMPANIES THROUGH A COMPETITIVE BIDDING PROCESS, AND THESE COMPANIES WILL BE OBLIGATED TO THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE AND PAY TAXES TO THE GOVERNMENT.

4. IN A BID TO REDUCE THE ILLITERACY RATE AND IMPROVE THE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS WITHIN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL ABOLISH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND REPLACE IT WITH THE NATIONAL BOARD OF EDUCATION WHICH WILL INTRODUCE THE “QUALITY EDUCATION PROGRAM”. UNDER THIS NEW DISPENSATION EACH ELIGIBLE STUDENT WILL BE GIVEN A FIXED AMOUNT OF MONEY TO ATTEND A SCHOOL OF THEIR CHOICE.

5. THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL INTRODUCE THE RESETTLEMENT HOUSING PROGRAM (RHP). UNDER THE PROGRAM, GOVERNMENT WILL UNDERWRITE THE CONSTRUCTION OF AFFORDABLE LOW-INCOME HOMES IN THE 15 COUNTIES FOR CITIZENS TO BUY, AND OFFER A DEFERRED PAYMENT PLAN FOR THOSE UNABLE TO PAY THE UPFRONT COST TO OCCUPY THOSE HOMES.

6. THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY, ESTABLISH A CRIMINAL AND A CIVIL COURT TO HANDLE MATTERS RELATING TO WAR CRIMES AND CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY COVERING THE PERIOD OF THE 14 YEARS CIVIL WAR. WE WILL ALSO REVISIT THE TRC.

7. AS A WAY TO ENSURE THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF OUR CITIZENRY AND OUR GUESTS, THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL REARM AND INCREASE THE OVERALL STRENGTH OF THE LIBERIAN NATIONAL POLICE (LNP) AND WILL ENSURE THAT THE BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION IS PROPERLY EQUIPPED TO SECURE THE BORDERS.

8. TO ADDRESS THE SHORT TERM HEALTH NEEDS OF OUR CITIZENRY, THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL DEPLOY HIGHLY EQUIPPED MOBILE HEALTH UNITS THAT WILL TRAVEL AROUND THE COUNTRY CONTINUOUSLY.

9. TO STRENGTHEN MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY, THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL INTRODUCE LEGISLATION THAT WILL LEAD TO THE CREATION OF FOUR STANDING POLITICAL PARTIES, EACH ASCRIBING TO A SPECIFIC POLITICAL IDEOLOGY. THESE FOUR POLITICAL PARTIES WILL RECEIVE MINIMUM FUNDING FROM GOVERNMENT UNTIL THE GDP OF THE NATION EXCEEDS TWO BILLION DOLLARS.

10. THE TQ HARRIS ADMINISTRATION WILL FACILITATE THE MECHANIZATION OF THE DIAMOND AND GOLD MINING INDUSTRY AND CREATE A STANDARDIZED BOURSE FOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL PURCHASE AND SALE.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I WILL LIKE TO INTRODUCE A MAN WHO WILL WORK SIDE BY SIDE WITH ME TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF OUR ADMINISTRATION. HE HAS SERVED GOVERNMENT FOR A DECADE. HE IS A GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA, A DIPLOMAT, A FAMILY MAN, AN ENTREPRENEUR, A HUMANITARIAN, LEADER IN HIS OWN RIGHTS, A NATIONALIST, AND A TRUE SON OF THE SOIL. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MEET THE NEXT VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA, MR. MOLLEY VARNEY PAASEWE.

Inside Liberia with Bernard Gbayee Goah

Everyone is a genius

Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. – A Einstein

Drawing the line in Liberia

Crimes sponsored, committed, or masterminded by handful of individuals cannot be blamed upon an entire nationality. In this case, Liberians! The need for post-war justice is a step toward lasting peace, stability and prosperity for Liberia. Liberia needs a war crimes tribunal or some credible legal forum that is capable of dealing with atrocities perpetrated against defenseless men, women and children during the country's brutal war. Without justice, peace shall remain elusive and investment in Liberia will not produce the intended results. - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Men with unhealthy characters should not champion any noble cause

They pretend to advocate the cause of the people when their deeds in the dark mirror nothing else but EVIL!!
When evil and corrupt men try to champion a cause that is so noble … such cause, how noble it may be, becomes meaningless in the eyes of the people - Bernard Gbayee Goah.

If Liberia must move forward ...

If Liberia must move forward in order to claim its place as a civilized nation amongst world community of nations, come 2017 elections, Liberians must critically review the events of the past with honesty and objectivity. They must make a new commitment to seek lasting solutions. The track records of those who are presenting themselves as candidates for the position of "President of the Republic of Liberia" must be well examined. Liberians must be fair to themselves because results from the 2011 elections will determine the future of Liberia’s unborn generations to come - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia's greatest problem!

While it is true that an individual may be held responsible for corruption and mismanagement of funds in government, the lack of proper system to work with may as well impede the process of ethical, managerial, and financial accountability - Bernard Gbayee Goah

What do I think should be done?

The situation in Liberia is Compound Complex and cannot be fixed unless the entire system of government is reinvented.
Liberia needs a workable but uncompromising system that will make the country an asylum free from abuse, and other forms of corruption.
Any attempt to institute the system mentioned above in the absence of rule of law is meaningless, and more detrimental to Liberia as a whole - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia's Natural Resources
Besides land water and few other resources, most of Liberia’s dependable natural resources are not infinite, they are finite and therefore can be depleted.
Liberia’s gold, diamond, and other natural resources will not always be an available source of revenue generation for its people and its government. The need to invent a system in government that focuses on an alternative income generation method cannot be over emphasized at this point - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Liberia needs a proper system
If Liberians refuse to erect a proper system in place that promotes the minimization of corruption and mismanagement of public funds by government institutions, and individuals, there will come a time when the value of the entire country will be seen as a large valueless land suited on the west coast of Africa with some polluted bodies of waters and nothing else. To have no system in place in any country is to have no respect for rule of law. To have no respect for rule of law is to believe in lawlessness. And where there is lawlessness, there is always corruption - Bernard Gbayee Goah

Solving problems in the absence of war talks

As political instability continues to increase in Africa, it has become abundantly clear that military intervention as a primary remedy to peace is not a durable solution. Such intervention only increases insecurity and massive economic hardship. An existing example which could be a valuable lesson for Liberia is Great Britain, and the US war on terror for the purpose of global security. The use of arms whether in peace keeping, occupation, or invasion as a primary means of solving problem has yield only little results. Military intervention by any country as the only solution to problem solving will result into massive military spending, economic hardship, more fear, and animosity as well as increase insecurity. The alternative is learning how to solve problems in the absence of war talks. The objective of such alternative must be to provide real sustainable human security which cannot be achieved through military arm intervention, or aggression. In order to achieve results that will make the peaceful coexistence of all mankind possible, there must be a common ground for the stories of all sides to be heard. I believe there are always three sides to every story: Their side of the story, Our side of the story, and The truthBernard Gbayee Goah
