Côte d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara has invited members of deposed former President Laurent Gbagbo's former party the Ivorian Popular Front to his formal investiture in Yamoussoukro on Saturday.

Around 15 members of Gbagbo's Ivorian Popular Front party have been invited to attend the ceremony. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other heads of state will also be present.

The move is being portrayed as a gesture of national reconciliation after violent clashes between supporters of Ouattara and Gbagbo since the November 2010 election left nearly 3,000 people dead.

Ouattara took power after the arrest of Gbagbo on 11 April amid heavy fighting in Abidjan. He took the oath of office on 6 May.

The president asked the International Criminal Court in a letter on 3 May to investigate crimes which both sides allegedly committed during the fighting.

The investiture "will mark a starting point for a new Ivory Coast, a great rally of all Ivorians. Mr Ouattara will receive the blessing of all the Ivorian people and show the rest of the world that he has been elected head of the whole country," a spokesperson for the president said.
