The Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) is calling for the immediate resignation of National Elections Commission Chairman, James Fromayan and the board of commissioners for allegedly violating the electoral laws of Liberia.
Speaking at his Fiamah Headquarters yesterday, the National Chairman of the MPC, Saywala Kennedy accused the NEC of refusing to enforce the election laws against the ruling Unity Party, who he said violated the election laws as provided in section 25, a, b, c, and d of the electoral laws.
It can be recalled that the National Elections Commission accused the MPC of pre-campaigning ahead of NEC’s scheduled timetable for the campaign process; a statement the MPC Chairman denied and argued that the commission’s allegation against his organization was without proof and as such lacks any constitutional basis.
Mr. Kennedy said the constant refusal of the NEC to take drastic action against the ruling Unity Party for violating the electoral laws has exposed their lack of neutrality in the process; something he said could fuel tension in the country.
The MPC National Chairman then stressed the need for the international community to reconsider its decision to providing logistical and technical assistance to a smoothed path for free and fair elections, come October, 2011.
He, at the same time, registered the MPC’s concerns on the decision taken by the Ministry of Justice to indict the NDC Political leader Ambassador Dew Mason and others for their alleged involvement in the sale of some Liberian Embassies.
Mr. Kennedy said the action taken by NEC’s should have been reserved for the Justice Ministry, describing it as politically motivated and witch hunt.
The MPC Chairman said his organization considers the Justice Ministry indictment as politically motivated because of its failure to take serious the GAC Audit report which he claimed exposed key government officials to corruption. ‘’
